From the days of harmonizing downstairs in the basement on rainy days to nights of sharing a stage with groups like Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, the Ronnettes and Frankie Vali, the Wathington Brothers have made quite a name for themselves. More and more people are looking for the kind of music that started it all, the doo-wop sound, where the genres of pop and R&B stem from. The Wathington Brothers- Willie (Bill), Charles and Otis - grew up in a house filled of music. With parents who truly appreciated music, they grew up listening to the Drifters, the Flamingos, and the Heartbeats. Together they learned harmony and began singing acapella. Moving from small local events, they performed in New York at the State Fair in 1965. In the 70's and 80's, the Wathington Brothers perfomed with musicians, calling themselves People- they entertained at various nightclubs, parties and events. As life became busier with work, wives and kids, performing eased up until the 1990's when "honorary" Wathington Darnell Taylor and guitarist James "Jimmy Mack" Maklary joined the ranks and they began performing weekly at Joe Pepp's Restaurant in their hometown. Over the years they have gained legions of fans and still perform together when able. Darnell Taylor, who also now performs with the group Special Request (more information available on them on the site) has added a personality and spirit that makes them even more special. If you haven't heard of the Wathington Brothers yet, now is the time to discover the timeless sound of the streets- the acapella harmonies of the Wathington Btothers will move your soul! Enjoy!
